Salle Moor Farm now home to three businesses

Three independent artisan businesses have made new homes in the renovated, traditional barns at Salle Moor Farm near Reepham. The businesses include a brewer, a food producer and a craftsman.

They are all working from the estate’s refurbished red brick barns, which have kept many of their original features while still offering all the essential mod cons.

Run by Sarah Savage, Essence Foods produces jams and chutneys using local ingredients. The range is stocked in local Waitrose stores and the produce can also be bought at country shows and farmers’ markets across the region.

Martin Reeve runs Norfolk Building Services and creates oak frames for heritage projects for organisations such as the National Trust.

Dr Simon Barker runs the All Day Brewing Company, which is creating, among others, a Salle Moor Farm signature real ale. He also plans to grow hops in the surrounding fields at the farm, thus allowing him to produce wholly locally sourced beer.

The estate is managed by Norwich-based Targetfollow, whose asset and investment manager George Craig explained: “Salle Moor Farm is a 312-acre arable farm, managed by a farmer, and made up of grassland, woodland and a 25-acre orchard set over two separate sites, one at Kerdiston and one at Booton.

“Apart from four residential properties, including the hall itself, there are several converted farm buildings, which we have renovated to a high standard, so we are delighted to have three local, independent businesses make good use of them.

"We also have eight polytunnels, where further tenants are creating a market garden, growing a wide selection of vegetables.”

It is hoped that the one of the remaining buildings, a former lambing shed, could also be refurbished, creating yet more space for a small-scale, local business that would benefit from sharing such a rural site in charming, unspoilt countryside.
