Reepham rocks with another sell-out music festival

Reepham rocked over the weekend of 9-10 August as a sell-out crowd enjoyed top bands and musicians performing at Rookery Meadow, St Mary’s Church and Whitwell Station.

Now in its seventh year, around 2,000 people attended the festival over the two days, confirming Reepham’s place on the national festival map.

The event saw headliners Big Country perform to a rapturous crowd, already warmed up by perennial crowd-rockers Buster James, tribute band Mainly Madness and fast-rising Dereham-based rockers Bad Touch.

The Saturday also saw performances from Hayley Moyses Bluegrass Forum, Daisy Victoria and a rare UK appearance by Australian singer-songwriter Lecia Louise.

A thunderstorm triggered a power cut on the Sunday afternoon and halted proceedings for a short time, but the musicians pressed on, earning the respect of the enthusiastic audience until the power was restored.

Festival chairman Steve Jenkins said: “The weather on Saturday stayed fine and everyone had a great day. Big Country went down well as did Hayley Moyses Bluegrass Forum and Buster James.

“It’s a great family-friendly event and there was a wonderful party atmosphere throughout. Sunday was equally enjoyable thanks to our hosts at Whitwell Station and when the power came back on, the fun just continued right through to a rousing finish courtesy of Walkway, who just a few days later supported Status Quo at Holkham.”

He added: “The festival sold out this year and last year. There’s a kind of synergy that extends beyond our geographical location and the festival is now well established as a key location on the UK festival map.

“We’ve had people from Scotland, the West Country and Manchester, and even though these are difficult times and there are lots of festivals out there, everything went really well and we’re already planning for next year.”
