Reepham leads the trail in art

Following last year’s successful Norfolk & Norwich Open Studios (NNOS), local artists are getting set to show their creativity and skills for the second Reepham Art Trail that starts next month.

As part of the 2015 NNOS event (Saturday 23 May to Sunday 7 June), 14 artists will be exhibiting their work at six venues in and around Reepham, offering visitors a rare glimpse of seeing them in their individual studio spaces and watching demonstrations that cover a variety of techniques and working practices.

Paintings, pottery and ceramics, textiles, photography, jewellery, sculpture, handmade books and traditional printmaking methods will all be on show to buy or simply to browse through.

This year there are two new artists’ venues on the trail. First is freelance photographer Stephen Pond, whose work has taken him to more than 35 countries and a multitude of assignments that include the Olympic and Commonwealth Games, Champions League and UEFA Cup finals, Wimbledon and the Ryder Cup.

Antje Ernestus is a potter who uses hand-building and throwing techniques to make beautiful individual glazed studio pots, mostly in porcelain, with strong simple forms that are often altered from round and slightly asymmetrical with a soft texture and a rich tactile quality.

Also joining the artists at the Old Stores on The Moor is new exhibitor Alison Varley, a jeweller who works primarily in silver and gold with an emphasis on exploring the different characteristics that can be found within metals and who uses strong lines and textures.

A taster exhibition for all artists on the Reepham Art Trail will be shown at the Rushlight Gallery in the Market Place from Tuesday 19 May to Saturday 7 June.

Across the county, there are more than 500 artists participating in the scheme, and there will be many events and workshops on offer for all ages and abilities.
