Aspiring journalists get practical experience

On Thursday 11 June, Year 8 students from Reepham High School stopped their ordinary lessons and took part in a Journalism Impact Day, which aimed to give them a taste of the industry of journalism and the life of a journalist.

Reepham Refresh produced by Mrs Chambers’ class was judged the best overall newspaper

The day began with a fascinating talk by a reporter from the Eastern Daily Press and students were then set the task of planning an article and some interview questions to be put to people from the local community.

Students posed their questions to a wide variety of guests to the school, with some even walking into Reepham to interview shopkeepers and the local rector, Revd Margaret Dean.

In addition to having lots of fun, students produced professional looking articles and worked hard all day. They behaved to the excellent standard we expect at Reepham High School and represented the school well.

Particular thanks go to PC Julia Benson, Revd Dean, The Dial House, Motts Pharmacy, Meloncaulie Rose, Very Nice Things, Reepham Home Hardware, Robertson’s Family Butchers and Diane’s Pantry, as well as Geoff Fisher, editor of Reepham Life, who was interviewed as well.

Judging the best article, newspaper and logo was difficult, but the winners were: Mimi Keogh, Sasha Cohu, Jess Buckle and Connie Baker for best article; Molly Christianssen for best logo, and Reepham Refresh produced by Mrs Chambers’ class was judged the best overall newspaper (download the issue HERE).
