Barrier to be erected to reduce noise from Salle substation

The operator of the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm is to erect a sound barrier to help reduce the sound emissions from its Salle electricity substation (pictured).

Wind farm general manager Bjørn Mo Ostgren made the offer following a meeting at the end of May with Cawston residents James Livingstone, Steve Mumby and Paul Sutton.

After a report from noise consultants Hoare Lea, Statkraft, which is responsible for the substation and the operator of the wind farm, received confirmation from Broadland District Council that the current planning consent allows for the erection of a solid fence to a height of two metres along the northern boundary of the site to reduce the level of noise emission.

Statkraft has decided to proceed with a fence and said it will keep the local community fully informed regarding the timetable for this work.

The Cawston residents’ group, who for several years have been campaigning against the persistent “hum” from the substation, said: “We feel this to be a very positive result for all concerned.”
