Grants available for Broadland’s young people

Young people and organisations looking for extra funds for training, community activities or youth projects in the Broadland district can apply for a grant of up to £700 from the Broadland Youth Advisory Board (YAB).

The Broadland YAB offers grants to individual young people and to organisations who work with young people in the district. Any young person in Broadland, aged 11-19 (or 25 for those with disabilities) is eligible to apply for an individual grant.

Up to £300 can be awarded to a young person to help them to progress in their training or career. This could include course fees or funds for work equipment or uniform. Funding can also be offered to individuals to help with transport costs to help a young person travel to college, their workplace or training course, or to participate in youth projects or access healthcare.

Groups working with young people in Broadland, such as parish councils or charities, are also eligible to apply for a grant through the Broadland YAB. A maximum of £700 can be awarded to local projects that are focused on building positive relationships between young people and other members of their community.

Grants are also available to groups who wish to hold small local events for young people and the wider community, such as fun days or sports events. Once applications are received, the decision to approve the grant is made by the YAB’s board of young commissioners, aged 11-19.

Broadland YAB young commissioner, Ellen Flower, aged 16 said: “The grants from the Broadland YAB can be for almost anything – the only condition is that they have to help young people in the Broadland area. Individual grants can be given for those that need financial assistance with transport to and from school/college or with uniform costs, for example. If you would like us to help you, as a young person yourself or as an organisation that helps young people in our area, please don’t hesitate to apply for one of our grants.”
