Reepham Sportives – are you in training for the ride?

Cycling events company Cycle Sportives UK has teamed up with the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) and Whitwell & Reepham Station to host three of its sportive cycling events this year.

The first is on 11 May with others on 22 June and 21 September; these form the Reepham Super Series and are recognised by British Cycling, the sport’s governing body in the UK.

A sportive is a non-competitive cycling event, where riders challenge themselves to cycle specific routes; there is no time limit.

For the Reepham events, riders can choose between the 35 and 70 mile routes, a real challenge for cyclists of all abilities. Both routes take the riders northwards through Reepham along quiet country roads towards Holt. The 70 mile route then pushes up to the North Norfolk coast.

Food stops are laid on halfway round, along with event photography, mechanical and medical support. At the end of the ride there will be a goody bag and water bottle. At Whitwell Station during the day there will be family events along with the steam engines.

Cycle Sportives UK works with local organisations including the Extreme Sports Therapy Unit based at City College Norwich and supports the EAAA in its vital lifesaving work. The company has already donated £300 to the EAAA by giving 50p from the entrance fee during the winter reliability rides.

Other events organised by Cycle Sportives UK include the gruelling TORQ Round Norfolk Epic, a 170 mile circumnavigation of Norfolk in a single day and the Pinewood Climbs Sportive, which takes in the rolling countryside of North Norfolk.
