Sport England supports high school cricket

When Reepham High School gained its new sixth form college building it was a dream come true for staff and students alike. It meant however, that the school lost its cricket square and has been without one for five years, as it has taken time to establish a wicket on the school’s new 10-acre field.

Now the sound of leather on willow will be heard again as Reepham & Salle Cricket Club has agreed to work with the school to ensure the new square is brought into play as soon as possible. The plan is to create a facility that can be used by both the school and the local community.

With the support of the cricket club and Kieron Tuck, the cricket development manager for Norfolk, the school has been awarded £10,000 by Sport England to purchase a 1.5-ton motorised roller and suitable cricket square mowers. The cricket club helped to identify what was needed to maintain and improve the square.

Although this is initially a one-year project, the school hopes that many students and players in the local community will be using the facilities for many years to come.
