Birdy’s Bike Ride raises more than £5,000

The Katja Hansen-Livsey Trust has now raised more than £5,000 following a cake and flower sale last month and Birdy’s Bike Ride, a 20-mile fundraising cycle ride from Holt to Reepham.

Birdy’s Bike Ride finished at Reepham College on Sunday 15 June. Pictured (left to right): Sam Hewitt (cousin), Cameron Livsey, Finn Livsey, Hilary Livsey, Carina Livsey, Lucien Livsey and Jimmi Cubitt (Katja’s boyfriend)

The trust was set up in memory of the 19-year-old local girl, who was killed in a road accident in November. The funds raised will be used to set up a bursary to help students at Reepham College.

It is also planned that an award will be created at the University of Liverpool School of Medicine, where Katja had been accepted as a student, and also to create a bird sculpture in the Medical School’s admissions building.

Katja’s mother Hilary Livsey said: “So many wonderful, kind and generous people have supported me since Katja’s accident. I don’t think that I would have managed to survive without the support and prayers from my friends in Reepham and I just want to say how grateful I am.

“Creating Birdy’s Bike Ride has been a positive thing for us. All of Katja’s friends, my children and Reepham High School & College came together and we had an amazing day on 15 June.

“Many thanks to everyone for the many ways that they have helped Lucien, Finn, Cameron, Carina and myself over the past seven months.”
