Open day on Whitwell Common

The trustees of Whitwell Common are holding an open day on 9 August from 2-4 pm.

There will be an expert on hand to identify the butterflies seen on the day and, hopefully, some moth trapping too, which is a harmless way to discover some of the beautiful moths that live on the Common.

Trustees will lead guided walks and give insights to the flora and fauna that occur here, although, of course, visitors are free to explore on their own.

It is hoped representatives from Natural England and Norfolk County Council will be present, too, who, along with the trustees will be able to provide information on the future management of this Site of Special Scientific Interest.

After all the exercise, there will be light refreshments available and a chance to browse the display boards.

The Common lies on the east side of Whitwell Road about 1 mile south of Whitwell Station. Access is by the telephone box.

Please take care when parking as there is limited space at the entrance, which is situated on a bend in the road. Suitable footwear will help you to enjoy your visit as parts of the path can be very wet.
