Tour of Britain to pass through Reepham

The 2015 Tour of Britain will be passing through Reepham on Saturday 12 September. British Cycling’s premier road cycling event last passed through the town during East Anglian stages in 2011 and 2012.

The full route is still being finalised, but this year’s Norfolk and Suffolk stage will start around mid-morning at Fakenham Racecourse, before the riders head through Fakenham, Reepham, Aylsham, Norwich city centre, Wymondham and Attleborough before leaving the county through Thetford into Suffolk. The seventh and penultimate race stage covering 225 km, the longest in this year’s Tour, will finish in Ipswich.

Featuring some of the world’s best cycling teams and riders, this year’s event is sponsored nationally by Friends Life and has been brought to the region by Norfolk and Suffolk county councils, Active Norfolk, Adnams, district councils and Norwich City Council.

Paul Smyth, chairman of the Communities Committee at Norfolk County Council, said: “In previous years the Tour of Britain has brought significant economic investment into Norfolk and proved to be a hugely popular event, so the race returning to the county is welcome news. “We are the only east of England stage and, as well as giving a boost to Norfolk’s profile and businesses, it may also lead to increased cycling among residents, with consequent health benefits.”
