Preserve the past for the future, but enjoy it now

Dear RL Reader

The Reepham Archive upstairs in the Bircham Centre has a large, varied and ever increasing collection of old documents and photographs, which our volunteers are working very hard to preserve. The collection is a valuable part of our heritage and a unique resource for anyone wishing to research the people and places that are our town’s history.

In our first year we’ve achieved a lot. Photographs are being ordered and digitalized, our manuscripts and documents, some more that 200 years old are being conserved and transcribed so that they can be easily read and searched and we are compiling an index of names and places so that research into family and property histories is made easier.

However, we do not have the specialist archival software that would enable us to catalogue and make these wonderful pieces of local history accessible online, so we are bidding for £1,200 from the Aviva Community Fund to pay for this. We urgently need your support because Aviva only give the cash to projects that have a high number of votes from members of the public.

You can learn more about the project and add your support by registering and voting at: https://community-fund.aviva.co.uk/voting/project/view/3691/

Alternatively, if you have a Facebook account, you can search for THE REEPHAM ARCHIVE and vote directly. You have 10 votes, please give them all to the Reepham Archive project! Please ask friends and relatives to do the same. It’s free and easy!

Putting the Archive online will help to put Reepham on the map and provide a valuable resource for education and research.

As I write, we have 639 votes, so we only need another 37 people like you to vote for us and we shall break the 1000 vote mark.

The deadline for voting is 30 May 2015, so please don’t delay!
