Law students take part in mock trials at Norwich Crown Court

Since the beginning of term, Year 12 and Year 13 law students at Reepham College have been working hard to prepare their cases for the Bar National Mock Trial Competition, which was held in Norwich Crown Court on Saturday 14 November.

Reepham battled against eight schools from East Anglia and won their verdict in two out of three cases, narrowly missing out on the final.

The students who represented Reepham College as barristers were Nathan Allum Greenfield and Adam Burton (Year 13), who are both going on to study law at university, as well as Frankie Townend and Jack Barber (Year 12).

“The students were incredibly brave to stand up and deliver speeches in front of four County Court judges; all of their speeches were excellently written and insightful,” said Natalie Cunliffe, teacher of law at Reepham High School & College. “In particular, Nathan stood out for his fierce cross-examination of the defence witness while he and Adam were prosecuting the case on behalf of the Crown.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity made possible by the Citizenship Foundation. I have no doubt that many of our students who took part in the competition will go on to succeed in legal careers after showing such dedication and aptitude for the subject at a young age. We look forward to competing again next year.”
