Owing to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) is running a series of free short courses giving people in central Norfolk the chance to learn more about a wide range of different flora and fauna, including bats, fungi and mosses, as well as discovering how to take great wildlife photos and helping wildlife in the garden.

Some of the activities will take place in the field, starting with ecologist Rob Coleman leading an evening bat walk at Foxley Wood – Norfolk’s largest ancient woodland –on Wednesday 4 October at 6.30 pm.
Then at nearby Bawdeswell Heath on Friday 13 October at 11.15 am there will be a mushroom foray led by county fungi recorder Tony Leech.
Inside at Bawdeswell Village Hall, Jerry Kinsley will be showing some of his stunning wildlife photos – and sharing the secrets of his success – on Wednesday 11 October at 7.45 pm, while back outside at Foxley Wood on Friday 10 November at 11.15 am, Robin Stevenson will be showing how to find and identify some fascinating if oft-forgotten plants, the mosses.
“We have been very lucky to get some real experts who are also great communicators to lead these sessions,” said TCV project officer Mark Webster, who will also be sharing his experience with a talk on wildlife gardening at Bawdeswell Village Hall on Wednesday 18 October at 7.45 pm.
“We hope that as many people as possible can take advantage of these free opportunities to learn about their local wildlife.”
