Plans well under way for Reepham Food Festival 2018

Reepham & District Rotary Club is considering new ideas for next year’s food festival, which will be held on 27 May.

The club hosted a meeting at St Michael’s Reepham on 13 November to discuss the 2018 event. Attending were local food producers, restauranteurs, sponsors, volunteers and representatives of community groups.

Many useful ideas were proposed, which the club will be considering in planning next year’s Reepham Food Festival. Other ideas for involving the community are welcome.

Two essentials for the future success of the event were emphasised by Richard Cooke on behalf of the organising committee.

The first is the need for sponsorship from local organisations to replace the short-term grants currently available. The second is the continuing need for volunteers to help with planning, publicity, ticket sales and stewarding on the day.

Successful elements from 2017 will be repeated, including the opening canapés and cocktails, a full programme of cookery demonstrations, food in the Bircham Centre garden and a closing supper with music.

Most of the 30 stalls from the inaugural event are expected to return, along with many more who have heard about the success of the festival.

Reepham’s schools will again be participating, with a junior Masterchef competition, allotment visits, food science and music. Together with the planned Japanese garden at the primary school there will be gardening stalls and other community activities.

The other planned innovation for 2018 is more information on how food gets from the field to the table. Working with local farmers and food producers there will be displays, competitions, samples and a chance to talk about farming.

More news will be available on the Reepham Food Festival website as plans progress. The Rotary Club welcomes any opportunity for involvement from local businesses or groups.
