Moira Dye, who was the Provincial Grand Master for the Heart of Norfolk District Branch of Oddfellows for 2017-2018, chose as her charity for the year Nelson’s Journey, which supports bereaved children who have experienced the death of someone close.

Mrs Dye was first installed as chairman of the branch in 1987 having been a member for many years.

Members of the Heart of Norfolk lodge based in Dereham raised £1,185 for Nelson’s Journey through twice-monthly raffles, with members donating the prizes and Mrs Dye supplying special Christmas, summer and Valentine’s Day-themed hampers.

The Oddfellows meet monthly for a variety of social evening in Dereham and hold talks, games evenings, teas and music. They also travel around the region for coffee mornings and lunches, with non-members welcome at any of the events, which are listed on the website.
