High standard of entries at second grow, make and bake show

Attention to detail and careful planning by the committee ensured the smooth running of the second Grow, Make and Bake Show at Cawston Village Hall on Saturday 8 September.

A light-hearted, yet challenging quiz started off the publicity in spring, followed by an ever-increasing deluge of supersize artistic representations of the anticipated entries appearing on the fence around the Village Hall, along with real sunflowers (assiduously watered by volunteers), all carefully placed in order to inspire entries by villagers.

Despite the difficult growing year, a high standard of entries was received, many delicious-looking edibles were made, flowers and gorgeous house plants exhibited, sculptured vegetables (these had to be seen to be believed) and craft items, along with artistic entries from each year at the primary school, including the Montessori class, meant there was much to be seen.

A new marquee made the accommodation more workable, and the provision of refreshments, a huge tombola and a raffle made a trip to the Village Hall a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend the afternoon for competitors – many won a coveted red rosette – and visitors alike.

Keen volunteers made the event work, so many thanks to them for organising this community experience.

Start planning now for next year, as there will be a third Grow, Make and Bake Show in September 2019.
