Reepham Lions ‘message in a bottle’ initiative could save a life

Members of Reepham Lions are looking forward to 2019 and reflecting on what has been achieved since the group started last September.

The club has hosted two events at Whitwell Station: the first charter night, when 100 members and guests enjoyed a memorable evening, followed by a quiz and pizza night, which replaced the December visit to the All Day Brewing Company (this will now take place next summer when it will be warmer).

Members also visited the Cawston Lunch Club and Reepham & District Day Centre to make people aware of, and distribute, “Message in a Bottle” – a simple idea to encourage people to keep their basic personal and medical details on a standard form and in a common location: the refrigerator.

All emergency services are aware of the Message in a Bottle scheme and, by displaying the green stickers in the home, emergency services will locate the bottle in the fridge and use the forms inside to ensure the person is treated quickly, which can save time – and lives.

If you know of anyone who you think would benefit from having one of these, please contact Barry Howes (details below).

Lions members also assisted at the Reepham Festival of Light on 6 December and are currently selling raffle tickets for various local charities.

The next meeting of Reepham Lions will take place on Tuesday 8 January at Reepham Methodist Church, Station Road, Reepham (no meeting on Tuesday 1 January, which is a bank holiday).

If you would like to come along or to find out more about joining, contact membership co-ordinator Barry Howes on 07778 752827 or email
