Sponsored walk raises £4,400 for Cancer Research UK

Tuesday, March 19, 2019 - 18:13

The organisers of the Spring March For Cancer Charities sponsored walk, in aid of Cancer Research UK, on Saturday 9 March, wish to thank everyone who took part in any way, in an emotional but memorable day.

They would especially like to thank all the individual sponsors for being so generous with their donations.

Blickling Estate looked beautiful in the sun after the storm clouds miraculously rolled away at 11.30 am, the start of the event. The wind was fierce, but it didn’t deter the walkers and wheelchair participants.

There was a great feeling of camaraderie, love and joy in doing something positive to try and eradicate this group of diseases. New friendships were made and old ones renewed.

Family members and friends travelled from far and wide to unite in the goal of beating cancer. The total raised for Cancer Research UK so far is £4,400.

Collection for retired greengrocer

Wednesday, March 6, 2019 - 18:41

Further to the recent article on Reepham Life, I have arranged a retirement collection for Geoff Deal of Meloncaulie Rose.

Having retired to Reepham last August with my husband, I had appreciated having a traditional greengrocer and felt sad that Geoff had been unable to continue.

Any readers wishing to give to this collection can hand their donation (cash only please) in at Reepham Post Office.

I will keep the collection open until 31 March, after which time I will take the money raised to Geoff at his home.

I will let Reepham Life know the total amount in due course.

Spring March for Cancer Charities

Tuesday, March 5, 2019 - 17:33

Thank you very much for your help supporting our Spring March for Cancer Charities at Blickling next Saturday. I hope loads of people will get involved and have fun walking with their families and friends.

I also greatly appreciate all their valuable donations for the life-saving work that Cancer Research UK supports. It’s amazing what we can do when we work together.

I hope the sun shines on all of us.

Support your local shops

Monday, March 4, 2019 - 09:54

Just a quick message to say thank you to Geoff [Deal of Meloncaulie Rose], who served Reepham for many years. He did so much more for this town than most people realise.

When we moved to Reepham a few years ago we said we will support the local shops as much as we can, as these make the town what it is and why people love living here.

If we, the local people, don’t use these places then Reepham will not remain the same. We need these shops to keep a working town. If the shops die, the town dies and so do investment and house prices.

There is an advert that occasionally does the rounds, normally on social media, about everyone spending £5 a month in local shops and how much of a difference that would make – it is very true.

The old Pantry went; now Geoff has gone; other shops will follow if we don’t support them.

Thank you Geoff for everything you did for this town; we wish you were still there. People like you are the reason we have a close community.

Meloncaulie Rose will be missed

Friday, February 22, 2019 - 08:33

We were very sad to learn that Geoff Deal has had to close after 33 years. His service and prices were second to none, and he will be sadly missed.

We wish him all the best for the future.

Speeding traffic in Ollands Road

Monday, February 4, 2019 - 09:19

May I please ask drivers using Ollands Road to kindly watch their speed? My beloved cat was killed at approximately 6 pm on Monday 21 January 2019 by a speeding vehicle that failed to stop.

More and more vehicles are using Ollands Road as a rat run and many are being driven at excessive speeds.

I would also like to publicly thank Stuart Leathers for reporting the incident to me and for bringing my cat home. I shall always be grateful for his kindness and for taking control of the situation.

Garden pergola to be taken down

Wednesday, November 21, 2018 - 08:58

Re: the wooden structure outside the Dial House (Your Letters, 26 October and 9 November 2018)

We have housed a handmade oak garden pergola from King & Company on which to grow vines and wisteria.

Locals have complained, so King & Company, which is selling it, is taking it down. We are waiting for them to remove it.

‘Gallows’ to be removed?

Friday, November 9, 2018 - 16:44

Re: the ‘unfinished shed’ outside the Dial House (Your Letters, 26 October and 9 November 2018)

There are planning restrictions in a conservation area. My understanding is that Broadland District Council is insisting that the wooden structure, known by some as the “gallows”, is to be removed.

Mysterious unfinished shed

Friday, November 9, 2018 - 10:50

I couldn’t agree more with Phillip Leeder (Your Letters, 26 October 2018), about the mysterious unfinished shed outside the front of the Dial House.

I have no idea if there are plans to complete construction of this structure, or what purpose it serves, but this totally ruins the appearance of the Dial House and has quite an unpleasant impact on the Market Place.

It needs to be taken down without delay.

Dial House eyesore

Friday, October 26, 2018 - 11:10

Am I the only person who thinks the “unfinished shed” that has been constructed in front of the Dial House is an eyesore, considering the style of building the hotel is?

Surely the owners could have come up with something more in keeping with the hotel?
