Reepham Archive to receive training with lottery heritage fund support

By Janet Archer

The Norfolk Record Office (NRO) has announced the award of a substantial grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to support a three-year project for town and village archives and local history groups from across the county.

The Reepham Archive is one of around 30 groups that will receive support from this project, which will provide local communities with the skills and support they need to create sustainable community archives.

Most importantly, the support will include the services of a professional archivist, who will provide training and share expertise in the collection and storage of historical archives.

As well as training, which will be published online for everyone to access, the project will acquire equipment for use by the partners, including acid-free, archive-quality packaging materials, digital sound recording equipment and digital photography kits.

Reepham Archive volunteers have been frequent attendees at various courses run by the NRO and have always found them both interesting and useful, so we are delighted to be included in this project and looking forward to taking part.

This exciting venture will enable us to record our collections more efficiently and select the most appropriate storage for photographs and documents that illustrate the history of Reepham, its people and the surrounding areas.

Hopefully, this may promote even more interest in our collections and inspire more residents interested in local heritage to join us as a volunteer.

To make maximum use of this fantastic opportunity, the Reepham Archive needs more enthusiastic people who could take advantage of the training offered and join us in the Archive, helping to ensure Reepham’s heritage and cultural memories are preserved.

The Reepham Archive is open to the public on the first Wednesday and Saturday of the month from 10 am – 12 noon (or by appointment), upstairs in the Bircham Centre, Market Place, Reepham. Email
