Christmas lights raise more than £500 for charities

A total of £504.46 was raised from the latest Christmas lights display in Richmond Rise, Reepham, which has now been donated to two charities.

Organiser Ian Tooley said the amount was split between the Big C cancer charity and the Reepham Rovers, the purpose-built minibuses used for local transport of disabled and elderly residents and local community groups.

A snow machine was also switched on every evening for 30 minutes during the lights display for people to take photos with “snow” falling, which he hopes to repeat this year.

The Christmas lights in Richmond Rise have been organised since 1992, with collections for charity raising more £7,500 since 2006.

Mr Tooley has now installed a rainbow rope light near the gate at Fiveways, Richmond Rise (just off New Road) in support of NHS staff and the care sector during the coronavirus lockdown.
