Local charity helping consumers save on energy bills

Local charity Community Action Norfolk is offering free training for frontline staff and volunteers who work with vulnerable members of the public, to equip them to help and advise people how to save money on their energy bills and stay warm in their homes this winter.

Rik Martin, CAN development manager, said: “Now more than ever it’s important to raise awareness to vulnerable consumers of how to stay warm, how to use less energy and how to pay less.”

The online training sessions are 90 minutes long and explore ways of helping vulnerable people save energy and money in their homes, to understand what support is available, dispel anxieties about switching supplier, and encourage them to look at a range of other ways of saving on their energy bills.

It is estimated that around 25,000 homes across Norfolk experience some level of fuel poverty. In extreme cases, people are having to make the choice to “eat or heat” – and badly heated and ventilated homes are the cause of around 600 excess winter deaths each in the county.

Available dates for the online training are 26 and 29 January, 3, 9, 12, 17 and 23 February and 1 March.

More information can be found HERE and places can be booked by email.

The training is part of the national Big Energy Saving Network. The sessions are open to voluntary, community, public and private organisations across East Anglia.
