The healthcare facility, which provides specialist care and treatment for adults with learning disabilities and associated mental health needs, was placed in special measures in September 2019.

The latest inspector’s report by the Care Quality Commission published in August 2020 reduced the capacity of the hospital from 57 to 12 beds.

Chief executive officer Tugay Akman said the hospital’s management team have been committed to making the necessary quality improvements.

“However, further operational and financial challenges have meant that the hospital service is no longer viable,” he said in a statement issued on 15 April.
