The memorial plaque, commissioned by Lady Dannatt, the Lord-Lieutenant of Norfolk, was presented to the town by Dr Rose Barnes, Deputy Lieutenant of Norfolk, during the town council meeting on 9 March.
 
Dr Barnes, who lives in Little Witchingham and was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant in January 2020, was born in Kenya and arrived in Norfolk in 1983, working as a GP in South Norfolk between 1987 and 2017.
 
Following retirement, she developed a volunteering role with the Norfolk Reading Project in supporting children with their reading skills.
 
She is also engaging with the St Martins Housing homelessness charity, hoping to provide both a hands-on role as well as an ambassadorial commitment to this worthwhile cause.
