Bench donation for new public space

Reepham Lions Club has donated a new bench to the Bircham Centre to allow people to pause and chat in the town’s Market Place.

Anyone who has visited the centre recently may have noticed that the area to the right of the front door has been turned into another garden space, with gravel, flowers in planters and an amelanchier tree donated by John Palmer in memory of his wife Brenda. This area can be accessed by a small gate next to the front door, behind the telephone box.

Reepham Lions had previously donated the two benches in the area to the left of the door, so the new bench has been chosen to match these. A plaque will be added to the bench, inviting people to sit there to chat with others; community benches play an important role in reducing loneliness and isolation.

The Lions Club will be fundraising again this summer with its annual raffle. Tickets will be on sale at the Reepham Food Festival on Sunday 25 May and at various locations throughout the following months. The winning tickets will be drawn at the club’s annual lunch in November.

Reepham Lions normally meet on the first Thursday of the month in St Michael’s from 7 pm onwards for a cuppa in readiness for the meeting, which starts at 7.30 pm. Anyone interested in becoming a supporter or member is invited to come along to find out what the club does.
