Mental Wellbeing Roadshow for Reepham’s young people

More than 300 students from Reepham High School attended the Mental Wellbeing Roadshow on Friday 5 May, to kick off the national Mental Health Awareness Week (8-12 May).

The event was held at the high school and hosted by Reepham’s Grow Your Community project with support from Reepham Town Council and funding from the Broadland Youth Advisory Board (YAB).

Representatives from a number of local organisations, including the Matthew Project, YMCA Norfolk and the Samaritans, were on hand to speak to the students about mental health, to offer support services and to give information about other services available to Broadland’s young people to help improve well-being.

Discussions with professionals covered a range of topics, including body confidence, exam stress and healthy relationships. Parents were also invited to attend the event to ask questions about mental well-being and to learn more about the services on offer in the Broadland district.

Reepham High School student Nathan Kirk, aged 15 years, helped decide to award a YAB grant to the roadshow in his role as a Broadland YAB young commissioner. He said: “The roadshow was a very successful event where people from across the year groups were able to learn more about mental health. Overall I believe it has helped the students at Reepham High School to gain a better understanding of mental health.”

Following the roadshow, a number of young people and parents have been invited to participate in a YMCA Norfolk mental health awareness session, which will take place in a few weeks’ time. This workshop will further equip participants to achieve good mental health and well-being.
