Gardening club considers online meetings

Although the highly anticipated annual plant sale, which was due to be held on 16 May and normally sells out within two hours, had to be cancelled owing to coronavirus, together with upcoming meetings, the Reepham & District Gardening Club continues to work behind the scenes.

The club’s committee held its first videoconference last week. Surprisingly, it went rather well considering the lack of technical expertise, although after about 30 minutes the committee members encountered a connectivity problem. However, after logging off and restarting the meeting they carried on for some 90 minutes.

The main discussions centred on lack of general meetings and the possibility of “getting back to normal”, whenever that may be.

The meeting on 16 June has not been cancelled yet and the club awaits the government’s next announcement on 11 May regarding the lockdown.

The programme of events for 2020/21 has been posted on the website and new membership cards have been printed, ready for distribution when better times allow.

A separate email will be sent to club members who have provided their email addresses asking if there is any interest in having an online meeting and if so, what format it should be, such as a “Gardeners’ Question Time” with questions sent in advance by email, a presentation by a member, just a chat or any other suggestion.

There will be another online committee meeting on 19 May and if any gardening club member wishes to raise any matters, please contact the committee.
