The English Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Gianluca Marciano with pianist Mario João Pires, performed Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture and his Piano Concerto No. 3 and Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony.

The royal couple were joined by guests including actresses Dame Judi Dench and Dame Maggie Smith, and were welcomed to the church by the Lord-Lieutenant of Norfolk, Richard Jewson.

This is the third time Salle has been chosen as a venue for Music in Country Churches, which is celebrating its 25th season this year; the inaugural concert was held in Salle.

Proceeds from the concert will help fund much-needed re-facing work on the church tower at St Mary’s, Reepham. St Andrew’s in Wood Dalling similarly benefitted in 2008, when the event was last held at Salle.
