Food festival survives morning downpour

The fourth Reepham Food Festival turned out to be a great success – despite stallholders and organisers having to shelter from torrential rain for the first two hours of the event.

But the downpour eased after 12 noon on Sunday 22 August, the sun came out and people began to appear in the Market Place in greater numbers.

All the stallholders reported busy trade, and many have promised to return for future festivals.

Unfortunately, the need to self-isolate affected the participation of two stallholders and one of the cookery demonstrators, but others filled the gap admirably and entertained around 700 visitors throughout the day.

BBC Radio Norfolk called in during the morning as the festival was featured on the radio station’s Treasure Quest programme.

Event organiser Reepham & District Rotary Club thanked all its members and volunteers who worked hard to make the festival a continuing success, as well local residents and visitors who came along, tasted and bought local produce.

The club’s stand featured information on the Sunshine Café for those with memory loss and their carers, which will be launched in September.

Planning has now started for next year’s food festival, scheduled for Sunday 29 May 2022, when the Rotary Club intends to return to a full event with the maximum number of stalls and special events involving schools, farmers and local producers.

The club welcomes any ideas and suggestions for improving the festival.
