Thank you to everyone who has already contacted me with memories of Reepham Methodist Church to help in our celebration of the 200th anniversary of the building of our chapel in 1817.
We have received information about lots of people with links to the church from recent times and also from years gone by.
There have been memories of the successful youth club from the late 1940s and early 1950s, including photographs of a trip to the YMCA Rally in London in 1953.
There have also been many recollections of celebrations held at the chapel, with one lovely photograph of the wedding party following the marriage of William and Kathleen Jones in 1930 or 1931. (This photo has been given for our history project by their son Dudley, who has recently moved to Reepham.)
The chapel is known for its warm and welcoming fellowship, something also shown by the wider Reepham community.
Retired postmaster George Johnson has shared memories of his parents, George and Renee, who retired to Reepham from Liverpool, became stalwart members of the Methodist Church and were well known in the town.
There will be a display about the history of the chapel and its people for the Flower Festival on 15-16 July. Please come along to see this, enjoy the floral displays and meet other visitors over a cup of tea and some cake.
The theme of the festival is “The Church is the People”; many of the flower arrangements will be in memory of local people and their families.
It is not too late to let me know about any memories of the chapel and its people, so do please get in touch with me. Our history project will continue for the rest of the year.
