The Reepham Archive is looking for additional volunteers. There are two specific roles that the archive team seeks volunteers for (or a single volunteer to cover both roles) as well volunteers to contribute to the work of the archive.
The archive is based in the Bircham Centre in Reepham. It has a large collection of photographs, publications and documents, some more than 200 years old, relating to Reepham and the surrounding area.
Archive administrator
The archive administrator will support the work of the archive. This voluntary role will typically require a commitment of around an hour a week. The role can also be combined with that of archive co-ordinator.
The main duties include:
- scheduling the use of the archive and responding to initial contacts, including those received by email, telephone and visits to the archive
- taking the minutes of quarterly committee meetings and attending monthly informal volunteer meetings
- preparing reports for the Bircham Centre trustees
- ordering and organising archive-grade materials and stationery
- liaising with the Bircham Centre manager
- general office duties
- social media and website subject to existing skills
- promoting the work of the archive
Ideally, the volunteer we seek for this role will have experience in general office management and be competent in IT.
Archive co-ordinator
The co-ordinator role will support an established group of volunteers and take the archive forward. It is envisaged that this voluntary role would require a commitment of around four hours per week on average, including a contribution to archiving activities.
The main duties include:
- co-ordinating the activities of the archive office
- supporting the team of volunteers
- promoting the archive
- recruiting new volunteers
- liaising with the Bircham Centre manager
Other volunteer roles
The archive also welcomes new volunteers to support its work. Volunteers may contribute to any or all of the following activities:
- sorting and sifting of documents and photographs
- research, including responding to queries and for archive exhibitions
- recording and storage of information
