Classic car and bike festival cancelled

This year’s Reepham Classic Car and Bike Festival, which was due to be held on the last Sunday in September, has been cancelled, although plans are already in place to hold the event at the same time next year.

Hugh Ivins, a member of the organising committee, said the decision was made following discussions with the town council and the police in respect of the current coronavirus (Covid-19) requirements for large outdoor events.

“We waited as long as we could within a realistic timeframe, but the safety of entrants, comprising some 140 classic cars and the several thousand attendant public of this extremely popular event in the Market Place was uppermost when coming to this decision,” said Mr Ivins.

The annual car and bike festival was instigated five years ago by local resident Peter Fitzjohn, who passed away earlier this year.

The organising team are keen to repeat the success of the previous events for September 2021 and have decided to present the Peter Fitzjohn Trophy in his memory for the best car in show.
