Red Rose women in local double delight

Following a 5–4 win earlier in the season, Cawston Red Rose women’s football team completed a 2022/23 season double over local rivals Aylsham with a narrow 1–0 victory in terrible conditions at Youngs Park, Aylsham. We thank our opponents for finding a pitch that the referee could declare playable.

However, torrential rain persisted and, after a delayed start to the match, conditions underfoot were no better, which made the surface difficult for the Red Rose women to play their usual, neat possession game.

Before the conditions on the pitch deteriorated further, Charmaine Story scored a fantastic goal to give Red Rose a deserved lead, which they held onto until the halftime break.

A long delay to the start of the second half saw no easing of the terrible conditions, making it harder for either side to create any viable chances as the pitch became a complete bog to play on, resulting in 1–0 being the final score and the weather being the real winner on the day.

Red Rose FC is still looking for new players for the women’s team and for each of the girls’ teams from Year 3 to Year 8. For more information please contact Paul on 07926 004994.
