Norfolk premiere of locally filmed drama

Locally filmed drama Losing Us (12+) will premiere in Reepham as director Teele Dunkley and producer Lesley van Dijk, who live in the town, will screen their short film for the first time in Norfolk at Reepham Town Hall, Church Street.

Two screenings and a Q&A with the filmmakers will take place on Thursday 12 October at 6 pm and 8 pm. Tickets are £5 per person and available from the Bircham Centre, Market Place, Reepham, or book online via Eventbrite.

Following two years of production, the filmmakers’ latest work is a film about family love, survival and human trafficking brought to the screen in their hometown.

The drama follows a mother with her two children who fled their home country trying to survive in the UK.

The film’s world premiere took place in September at the International Human Rights Film Festival in Albania, and was then shown at the North East International Film Festival in Newcastle upon Tyne.

The film has also been selected to screen at the Oscar-qualifying 40th Annual Chicago International Children’s Film Festival in November.

Viewers will see familiar faces as local talent is featured in the film, as well as places from around Reepham, including the Bircham Centre, Johnson’s of Reepham, Eves Hill Farm, Cawston play park and Reepham’s Market Place.

Ms van Dijk said: “It is so special to finally share our film with people from Reepham and surrounding areas.

“More than 100 people were involved in the making of this and many live locally so the screenings are also a way for others to see their fantastic performances and involvement.

“It has been amazing how people from Reepham got behind the production. And particularly both Teele’s and my family have been incredibly supportive for which we are forever grateful.

“It started with an idea from Teele and writer Stephan Drury, who will also attend a screening, turned it into a powerful story that touches people’s heart and mind.

“It has also been wonderful to work with so many local professionals, including Katrine Boldero, who was the costume designer; Karen Howard and family; Emily Woodward from Triple Threat Stage School; Chris Durban from Reepham College; Jeremy Buxton from Eves Hill Farm; and Polly Brockis from the Bircham Centre. It was a real Reepham-led production!”

Ms Dunkley added: “Speaking to people at festivals in Albania and also here in the UK, many said that it’s a very current issue therefore important to highlight as it’s happening right now.

“This film is looking at it from a different perspective, which is from the children’s point of view.

“We’re so excited to screen this special film and also Metres Apart, and are looking forward to showcasing our film talent.”
