New police HQ in Broadland to reduce rural response times

By Jerome Mayhew MP

A key element of my local six-point plan for Broadland has been tackling rural crime and improving police response times in our communities.

To that end, I was delighted to see the completion of the new Broadland Police Station in Postwick, speak with officers about the benefits this will have for Broadland and meet with some of their new teams focusing on tackling domestic abuse, fraud and local community engagement.

Alongside the chief constable and the police and crime commissioner, I will continue to work to ensure that our local police are local, responsive and effective in their work supporting our rural towns and parishes in Broadland.

Norfolk County Council children’s services rated as ‘good’ by Ofsted

Under the control of the opposition, children’s services had previously been rated as “requires improvement”. Since having taken back control of the council, the Conservative-led councillors have been focused on turning the service around and improving both lives and outcomes for children and families across the county.

Following the announcement of their latest inspection, I was enormously pleased to have a briefing with Cllr John Fisher, cabinet member for children’s services, to hear the feedback of Ofsted and warmly welcome their latest “good” inspection. This is a huge turnaround for the service, and the detailed feedback highlights that the department is well on the way to outstanding.

Enormous congratulations to Cllr Fisher, Sara Tough and the entire team at children’s services for working so hard on this result.

Annual jobs fair 2023

While I welcome the news that unemployment is down in Broadland, and substantially below the national average, there are still 1,130 claimants in Broadland.

I will be hosting another jobs fair to help local residents and school leavers to find their next career. This time, I’m really excited to be working with Taverham High School to deliver on this project, and am keen to hear from businesses in the local area that might like to come along to promote the careers and opportunities in their field. If you’d like an invite to host a free stall, please do email me directly.

Meeting with Broadland Housing

The relationship between residents and housing associations can sometimes be fraught. So I recently met the CEO of Broadland Housing to learn from one of the best providers in Norfolk how housing can be better handled.

As always, if you’ve got an issue that I can support with, please do get in touch by email and I’ll do my best to help. Alternatively, please do contact my office if you’d like to arrange a meeting at one of my regular surgeries. You can also find me on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram or via my website.
