Organised by Broadland District Council, the awards were presented at a ceremony at The Space in Sprowston on Wednesday 14 October attended by more than 130 guests and featuring Broadland Youth Choir.

Winners were chosen for 10 categories from people nominated by members of the public. They were presented with a trophy, a hamper of local products and vouchers of their choice. Highly commended nominees received certificates.

Ms Livsey was the Personal Courage category winner. Her daughter Katja was killed in a car accident in November 2013 on a gap year after finishing her studies at Reepham College.

Ms Livsey has raised a significant amount of money for a bursary scheme at the College to provide financial support to help other students go on to university, which Katja missed out on. She also runs Angelica florists in Reepham and has Katja’s siblings to care for, but has made time to fund raise for others.

Mr Collins, who was named Environmental Champion, was nominated for his hard work to make the high school more environmentally efficient and a better place to work for both pupils and teachers. Fuel bills have been reduced and rooms are healthier without mould and condensation. He has also been working on a project to create four new classrooms made from crushed glass, which will be very environmentally efficient.

The Reepham-based winners were nominated by Broadland District Councillor Graham Everett.

Opening the ceremony, Council chairman Ken Leggett said: “I hope all of you will feel proud of your achievements. Whether you have been nominated for helping those less fortunate than yourselves, for reaching an ambitious goal, or for improving the environment for all of us in the future, what you have done will inspire others. Thank you for the contribution all of you have made to our Broadland communities.”
