Bircham Centre toilets twinned to help flush away poverty

As part of the refurbishment of its hallway, the Bircham Centre in Reepham has twinned its two toilets with latrines in Zambia and Malawi.

The announcement comes on 19 November, which is World Toilet Day – a United Nations-designated event that celebrates toilets and raises awareness of the 3.6 billion people living without access to safely managed sanitation.

Good sanitation and clean drinking water are fundamental to communities. Yet one in four people worldwide – some 1.7 billion people – do not have somewhere safe, private or hygienic to go to the toilet. The human and economic impact of this is enormous.

This is another example of the local community reaching out to people in need in developing countries.
