Local business wins legal battle against fashion giant

A couple from Reepham have won a trademark dispute against the giant Louis Vuitton fashion house over the name of their business.

L V Bespoke of Walnut Farm, Bawdeswell Road, which sells hand-made home and garden products, faced a two-year legal battle with the French fashion brand after owners Lawrence and Victoria Osborne registered their business as a trademark in December 2021. Louis Vuitton claimed the couple’s logo could cause “confusion” amongst consumers.

An Intellectual Property Office tribunal ruled in favour of the Osbornes and ordered Louis Vuitton to pay £4,000 in compensation towards their legal costs, estimated at up to £15,000, “but no cost can cover the anxiety and stress that we’ve had to endure this past year,” the Osbornes said.

“We’re just relieved that we can put this chapter behind us and focus on what we do best.”
